Road Test

1) Test point

(1) Prevention of the SKID phenomenon.
(2) Decrease of braking distance.
(3) Controlment and stable stop without fall down under emergency braking.

2) Test condition & methode

The performance test of HS-ABS was conducted at the YONG-IN EVERLAND circuit in Korea. Five skillful racers was invited and each provided with HS-ABS. Three racers rode HARELY DAVIDSON motorcycles equipped with HS-ABS, while two racers rode motorcycle without ABS. Each racers rode the bike for 100m with the speed of 80§°/h and 100§°/h. and then braked fully at a specific point in order to test skid phenomenon, braking distance, stable stop without falling down. And also some barrier was built up at the front of 100m for testing controllable performance under emergency braking.

3) Test results

  1. Non-ABS motorcycles locked up, while the HS-ABS motorcycle didn't. ABS motorcycles showed no-skid marks when braked at 80§°/h speed, while the non-ABS showed clear skid marks.
  2. Decrease of braking distance
Test was done 10 times repeatedly under the 80§°/h and 120§°/h speed. Braking distance was reduced dramatically as follows.

* Average braking distance (at 10 times)

ABS

non-ABS

Difference

22.3 m

30 m

8.5 m

ABS

non-ABS

Difference

23.5 m

34.6 m

11.1 m

( At 80 §°/h )                                                           ( At 120 §°/h )

HS-ABS braking performance was 30 percents ( MAX 40 %) better  than non-ABS. However there was no significant difference when braking at lower speeds. ( less than 40§°/h )
